The aim of the game is to make a winning five-card hand by using the cards you have been dealt. The best hand wins the pot of chips, or money. Players can also bluff and try to convince other players that they have a better hand than they actually do.

The game begins when everyone puts in their ante, which is a small amount of money that each player must place into the pot before they can see their cards. Once everyone has put in their antes the dealer deals three cards face-up onto the table which are available to all players, these are known as the “flop.”
Players then have the option to call the bet made by the person to their left or raise it. If they raise it, the other players can call it or fold. To win the pot of chips you must have the highest hand at the end of the round. If you don’t have a high enough hand to win, you lose everything you have put into the pot so far.
